Lorenzo Restagno, born in Turin (Italy) in 1987, studied composition in Paris with Hugues Dufourt, and with Salvatore Sciarrino, Francesco Filidei and Pierluigi Billone. He has attended masterclasses of Luca Francesconi (Beijing 2013), Francesco Filidei (Pontedera 2012, 2013, Barga 2014), Yann Robin (Barga 2014), Pierluigi Billone (Palermo 2012, Adria 2013, Milano 2014, Flix 2014), Dieter Mack (Beijing 2013), Lee Hyla (Chicago 2014), Marco Stroppa (Milano 2013).
Graduated in Chinese Language and Culture from Turin University with a thesis on Chinese Buddhism (BA, February 2010) and on Chinese Philology (MA, April 2014) with full score and merit.
He also studied music composition in 2010/2011 at Central Conservatory of China in Beijing as student of Guo Wenjing. He previously attended Turin Conservatory composition classes of Giulio Castagnoli (2003/2009), and has studied electronic music at Turin Musiclab.
He was selected for many international composition workshops and festivals, such as Royaumont Voix Nouvelle 2014 composition course (with Brian Ferneyhough, Johannes Schöllhorn and Dmitri Kourliandski), Darmstadt Summer Course 2014 chamber sessions, Western Illinois University Red Note Music Festival with Ensemble Dal Niente (with the financial support of GAI - Giovani Artisti Italiani, Moving Up 2013), Sirga Festival (Flix, Spain 2014), Inaudita Tuscany Early Music Festival 2014 with Auser Musici (Pisa 2014), Festival della Nuova Musica Contemporanea 2014 (Udine) , Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival (South Korea 2014), Billone Workshop with Ensemble Interface (Adria 2013), Beijing International Composition Workshop with Beijing Contempo Ensemble (Beijing 2013), Ecce Gratum Maderna 2014 (with the Orchestra dei Giovani Musicisti Veneti, Assisi 2014).
His pieces have been performed in Italy, Spain, United States, China, South Korea and Japan, played by ensembles as Ensemble Dal Niente, Ensemble Interface, Beijing Contempo Ensemble.
